ABOUT THE ARTIST JACOB MARREL:
Jacob Marrel (Frankenthal, 1614 Frankfurt am Main, buried November 11, 1681) was a German painter, working in the Netherlands. He painted flower and fruit still lifes in botanical style, among other things.

Jacob Marrel was the son of Frankenthal town clerk. After his death, the family moved to Frankfurt in 1624. There Jacob became an apprentice to the still-life painter Georg Flegel. In 1630 he moved to Utrecht, where he got married. He may have been a student of Jan Davidsz. de Heem. He returned to Frankfurt around 1650, where he got married for the second time and where he counted Abraham Mignon, Johann Andreas Graff, Rudolf Werdmüller and his stepdaughter Maria Sibylla Merian among his pupils. In 1664 Jacob Marrel left to Utrecht again, accompanied by Maria Sibylla Merian and Abraham Mignon. He ran an art trade there. He spent his last years in Frankfurt, from 1679 onwards.

Jacob Marrel painted still lifes in the style of Jan Davidsz. de Heem.
